November 2007
Happy thanksgiving everyone!!!!! Hope everyones holiday festivities went well. I've been pretty busy since I've been back in Lafayette, here is a progress shot of my new painting, Allegory V.
After alot of consideration of the pros and cons, I have formally resigned from Dafford Murals! I've spent alot of good years there, and I hope made alot of good art, but the time has come to move on. I plan to continue doing art, paintings, murals etc. on my own, further developing my own career and work. This is the new NEWS I've been hinting at for the last several weeks. If anyone would like to have any work done, please see my commissions guide page and contact me.
Here it is, The Kincaid Site sign that I designed last year for the Kincaid Site! Brett and I went to see it today, and I think it came out pretty well. I didn't design the other two, but they did use my borders in them.
Hello all, Brett Chigoy and I are now in Paducah, Ky finishing up some ten yr touch ups on a few murals and dodging the rain. It's been a long strange summer, and it's finally almost over. We got the T.OS.R.V. mural near completion in Portsmouth, Oh this month. I have a bunch of ideas for some new paintings for when I return to Lafayette. I'm hoping it's a productive winter season in the studio. Hope all are well. Happy Thanksgiving.

The Misfits played here in Portsmouth last night (Oct 21), and it was a fantastic show. Jerry Only and the rest of the guys are awesome. When Jerry found out that Rachael (my 10 yr old daughter) had wanted a Misfits shirt for her Bday, he dragged me inside and gave me one, autographed it for her and everything. It was *&^%ing awesome. And I hope they meant it when they said they may come back here again. The only thing better than last night, is if they did it again and again.

 The Dawn of Kitsch -

A greeting to you, gifted one, you who want to attain sincerity in your work. You are a stranger to your time, but do not loose heart! I know Art feels unpleasant to you; you have become a slave beneath an aristocracy of incompetents. Art was never meant for people like you.
Art has its justification - the untalented need comfort - but so do you. You have been ashamed of your ability too long. So long as the skillful craftsman can only aspire to defeat, a great injustice is done. Know this: without you as a subjugated guarantor, the incompetence of Art becomes worthless. The money and honor obtained by artists rightfully belong to you, so take them back! Put an end to the humiliation, withdraw from Art and let it complete its fall into worthlessness.
The 19th century was the twilight of talent; take part in its dawn.
Through Kitsch the talented one can save himself. It is a new discipline in which skill finds a superstructure. A superstructure serving the genius of ability.
Do not allow Art to retain its moral authority over ability.

I've added a new section to the ChromeSun Productions Website! Herb Roe's Murals! I'm working on getting more stuff added to it. It's all murals done by me, Herb, apart from Dafford Murals. I'd like to do alot more stuff like this, working in my own style, which is quite different from the Dafford Murals company style. If anyone knows anybody who is interested in having some mural work done, send them my way.
It's finally finished. It's been proofed and reread, and edited, adjusted and fiddled with as much as I can. Anything else will have to wait until I finish all of the chapters and edit it into one book. . I hope you all like it. I think it came out pretty good. Peace, H.
There will be other new news coming up this month and next month, so keep coming back. Things will be a changing around here. And it's about time. Also soon, I'll get some pics of the Rosemary Clooney mural dedication. It was nice, I got to met Nick Clooney and his family, they were all very nice people and it was a great event.
September 2007
Almost finished!!!!!!!! The Rosemary Clooney Mural in Maysville, Ky is almost finished! Brett and I are taking a week off, we've driven home, first time I've been home to La in 4 months. As you can see from the pics below, we still need to go back and spend a few days finishing some stuff at the bottom. Robert Dafford needs to finish the little girls to the left and the scene from "White Christmas" to the right. All in all the new Keim Mineral paints we're using have turned out o.k., I've finally gotten the hang of using them. Figuring out how to blend and use the colors took some adjustment, but as you can see from the 2 portrait busts I did, I finally got it. I also plan on working on Chapter 2 of The Black Sun during my week off, so for any one waiting for it, I hope to finish it and get it uploaded by the end of the week. Wish me luck!!
We are now in Maysville, Ky working on the Rosemary Clooney mural. I'll post progress photos soon. Here is a link, http://foto.rompres.ro/index.php?i=1811698 to the Romanian Associated Press website, which shows me painting on the giant portrait of Rosemary Clooney.  And here http://www.maysville-online.com/ , I am on the front page of the Maysville Ledger Independant ( 8-29-07 ). I've also begun working on new pages for the Black Sun-Chapter 2 this week and am hoping to finish it within the next few weeks to a month.

Our summer season has finally begun. We finished our work in Vicksburg, Ms for the summer( the Willie Dixon mural is completed, and will be unveiled june 28th for anyone who wants to go and see it). Looking forward to seeing everyone on the road. Hope everyone is well.
April 2007
On April 14th and April 25th 2007 we'll be having a gallery opening and open house here at the Warehouse on Garfield St, 625 Garfield St, Lafayette, La. We've all been working hard all winter on new stuff and are anxious for everyone to come down and check it out. I have a bunch of new figurative work, most of which is already finished. I've added a few of the paintings to the Paintings Gallery here at ChromeSun, so go check some of them out. I'm hoping to have 5 new pieces for the show, but I'll have to wait and see how much time I have between now and then to finish them all. Please bookmark your calendars and come on down. We'll have booze, , lots of new art and plenty of interesting people. And since this is one of my last weekends in town, it could be your last chance to hang out until November or something like that. We've also finished the Telemachus Wallpaper project in Silver Creek, Ga and nearly finished the Cotton Arch mural in Vicksburg, ms. There are some pics of our 3 new projects just below here. Enjoy.

Below are some pics of the Etowah Mound Site in Cartersville, Ga. We all went and walked around one day and visited their museum. Etowah is one of the 10 largest sites of it's kind. The main mound is 60 feet tall, and has several layers. It was quit a sight, only 2 or 3 I've seen are bigger. The bottom pic is of Brett Chigoy, as seen from the top of the smallest of the 3 mounds.

Doug Dafford, R.I.P. - Feb. 18, 2007
Doug Dafford, a long time member of Dafford Murals and Roberts younger brother, passed away saturday night. He had been diagnosed with a form of leukemia last fall and had been undergoing chemo treatment all winter. Doug had asked for cremation and the scattering of his ashes here in La. A memorial service will be scheduled here in Lafayette. He was an important member of our mural family, and he will be greatly missed by us all. Go in peace Doug.
Douglas Dafford paintng on the P.H.S. Murals in Summer 2006
Over the summer of 2006 Doug assisted me with the P.H.S. murals. It was the last project we worked on together. The project had come up unexpectedly, and we only had a little over a month to finish the project before the dedication of the building and the opening of the school. In 5 weeks time we completed 3 relatively large indoor murals. As usual, without Doug, we wouldn't have finished on time.
February
It's been a relatively quiet month here in Lafayette. I've been spending alot of time working on some new paintings. Allegory 2 is nearing completion, and Allegory 3( rough titles) is in the sketch phase. The Apollo Ball passed uneventfully. My sister Amanda gave birth to her first child last week( Donald Edward Wilson ) and I'm very happy for her. Mardi Gras is this weekend and Ellen is on her way here for the weekend. Happy Festivities to everyone, and for those up north, try to keep warm in all of the snow.

January 2007
Well, December was a long month. I made my first trip to California, I decided to drive across the desert just for the hell of it to get there. While there I did a small job for one of my brothers and got to hang with them and their families for awhile. Then I drove to Paducah for Xmas with my Rachael. It was a fun trip, took 2 weeks, 6 days of it driving, but all in all a very nice experience. And now I'm back in Lafayette, I've finally gotten the internet and cable hooked up at my apartment. And it's time to go into the studio for awhile. I'll post some of the new work as it progresses. Hope everyone's new year has started well.
