December 2006 |
|
|
|
Well, December was a long month. I made my first trip to California,
I decided to drive across the desert just for the hell of it to get
there. While there I did a small job for one of my brothers and got
to hang with them and their families for awhile. Then I drove to
Paducah for Xmas with my Rachael. It was a fun trip, took 2 weeks, 6
days of it driving, but all in all a very nice experience. And now
I'm back in Lafayette, I've finally gotten the internet and cable
hooked up at my apartment. And it's time to go into the studio for
awhile. I'll post some of the new work as it progresses. Hope
everyone's new year has started well. |

Brett Chigoy and I are back in Vicksburg this month, and work has
begun on the new mural here, "The Sprague, The Big Mama of the
River". The Sprague was the largest river boat ever built and pushed
the largest tow ever at some ridiculous tonnage. After it was
retired it was purchased by the City of Vicksburg, and used as a
floating restaurant and theater. In other news, our show at The
Warehouse on Garfield went very well, we seemed to have had the
largest crowd for ArtWalk that night. We plan on possibly having
quarterly shows, possibly every 3 months. When the next one comes
up, I'll post it here and on my other pages. |
 |
|
And for our big announcement, The Warehouse on Garfield ( where we
have our studio and where I have my apartment) is having our big
grand opening gallery show for the next Artwalk on the 11th. We now have 6 or 8
artists in the building and Ken and Debra Simeral have finished
putting together our gallery space, so it's time to let the public
see what we all do. Come on down saturday night and enjoy the art.
It's at 625 Garfield and should be starting about 1:00 pm and going
to 10:00. I'll be there and so will lots of other fun and exciting
people. So come on down and see us and the art. In other news, it's approaching the end to our time on the road in Ohio, Kentucky,
and West Virginia this summer. The days have grown short, cold and
rainy, and we are currently spending more time working inside on an
installation job for a client in Georgia. We are reproducing the
18th century french wallpaper cycle of the Telemachus myth. The
Hermitage ( President Andrew Jacksons house in Nashville, Tn) has a
set in their entryway, and our clients wish us to reproduce it for
their entryway. We'll also be starting the projects in Vicksburg, Ms
very soon. |

On the road again, this month looks to be a
busy one. Currently we are trying to finish up for the year in
Covington, Ky, and Pt Pleasant, WVA. The weather seems to be rapidly
turning bad on us and we shall be making our annual return to the
south very soon. |

I've finally gotten around to adding a
Guest Book for
ChromeSun Productions. So go and leave me a note. |

Mike Doherty and I finished the Marineways
mural in Paducah Ky this month. It shows the marineways dry
dock facility for the steamboat industry as it looked at the turn of
the century. In other news, my sister Amanda Roe and Tom Wilson were
married on June 30th in Portsmouth, Ohio. And my friends Mike
Doherty and Sandy Hoskins were married on August 29th at the Outer
Banks of N. Carolina. |

August 2006 |
|
August 19, 2006 was the
dedication for the new buildings for the Portsmouth High School,
including the 3 new murals I did in the main student entryway.
Doug, Mike, Sharee, and I completed all of the murals on time, which
was a major challenge, because we crammed about 8 weeks of work into
5. The last week was sheer misery, with long hours, deadlines
creeping up, strep throat and then a case of pinkeye, to top
everything off. But we did it and they look fantastic if I do say so
myself. Below are final photos for the mural in the entryway, of
three 23ft tall trojans welcoming people in the new building. Thanks
to everyone who helped out. It is much appreciated. |

Thanks to Mr. Fisher at the Solid Concepts
Tattoo Shop in Downtown Portsmouth, Ohio, I have a new tattoo. It's
an Amerind design originally on a shell gorget from a mound in
Spiro, Ok. The creatures are Uktenas, underworld serpent monsters(
singular uktena).
Thank you Mister Fisher. |

Work has finally begun on the first ChromeSun
Productions murals!!!! I've done murals before on the side, but not
since using the ChromeSun stuff for all my personal projects,
including illustrations, graphic novels, etc. , and now murals. By
the time we finish, we'll have done 3 murals in the new Portsmouth
High School building in Portsmouth, Ohio. The main mural is 13 ft
high by 33 ft in length, and has 3 very large characters dressed in
Greek armor beaconing people into the building, as befits the
schools mascot, The Trojan. The second mural will be a painting of
the old P.H.S. building. The third mural will be at the entrance to
the basketball gym, and will consist of 5 or 6 sports related
figures in P.H.S. uniforms. Special thanks to Josh Justice and
Christy Turvey for modeling for me, not just anybody will come and
play dress up in ancient greek armor. Doug Dafford and Mike
Doherty are assisting me with this project. And Sharee Price plans
to help when she returns from vacation. The murals will be unveiled
during the grand opening ceremony for the building in late august
2006. Keep checking back, I plan to get back to posting progress
photos for this one. In only slightly related news, The Black
Sun-Chapter 2 probably wont be ready for an august release date,
because as you can see, I'm a little busy at present. But I will be
finishing it, I promise. Really. Hope everyone is well. |

June 2006 |
|
June is almost over and it's time to head to the Portsmouth, Ohio
area for the rest of the summer. We finished the 1913 Homecoming
Mural here in Paducah and nearly completed the Marine Ways Mural.
I'll put pics of them up when I get my camera uploaded, hopefully in
the next week. The next projects are the news Pt. Pleasant , W.Va
Project and some more to add to the Baseball Mural in Portsmouth. I
may also possibly be doing a mural in the entryway to the new high
school building in Portsmouth. |
|
May 2006 |
|
The yearly migration north has begun with our
new murals here in Paducah, Ky. During the next month we'll be
painting the Homecoming 1913 mural and starting the Paducah Marine
Ways Mural. I'll be posting progress shots here as the murals
progress. |

April 2006 |
|
It's spring now and almost time for our yearly
migrations north. It's been quit a busy month so far with trips to
Austin and Paducah, the building and finishing of my apartment(
there are picture here for you to see) here in Lafayette, and soon
Festival International De Louisiane. After that we should be heading
to Paducah to do a few new murals there. I have a show up right now
at The Green Room here in Lafayette of some of my photorealist work,
I also have several large new paintings on display at Artmosphere,
including American Dreams-White and Allegory. So if your here in
Lafayette for Festival, make sure to go by and check them out. Hope
all is well and can't wait to see all my friends up north soon. |

February 2006- Apollo Ball, New
Paintings |
|
Mardi Gras is almost
here!!!!!!!!! The company had our annual party and we all went to
the Apollo Ball, I guess one of only times in my life I've ever worn
a tux. So far it's been a relaxing winter, I've been taking
time off from my duties at Dafford Murals and concentrating on some
of my own paintings. So far I've started on a trilogy of
photorealist works "American Dreams". The series will be 3' x 4',
oils on masonite, with each being a different color and model of
car. Below is a progress shot of "American Dreams-White", which
shows the left tail light of a 1958 Oldsmobile. "American
Dreams-Red" is also started, it being the right tail lights of
a 1964 Impala. I'm planning on having the 3 finished by March or
April of 2006, and having a show here somewhere in Lafayette. |
 |
|
I've also been working on an interpretative
sign for the Kincaid Mound Site in Massac, Co, Illinois. It's to be
3ft by 4ft and will be next to the road which runs by the plaza. I'm
not sure when it will be installed, but I'm looking forward to going
to the site when I return to the Paducah area to see it. (
click here to go see pics of
the sign on the news 2007 page, it came out great) |

January 2006 |

My mothers mtDNA results finally came back, and
we seem to be Europeans on that branch too. Or at least 50% of the
population in Europe are in the same haplogroup, which is H. But
it's geographical location also stretches from Northern Africa, the
Middle East, and into India. So, more than likely my mothers
mothers, mothers, mother, etc. came from somewhere in that large
geographical area, whose highest concentration is Western Asia and
Eastern Europe. If you'd like to find out your own, here is a link
National Geographic
Genographic Research Project. |

December 2005 |
|
It's that time of year again, we're in
Vicksburg, ms and freezing our little butts off. This time of year
if it gets warm enough outside to paint, it rains. But we plug away
at it anyway. I'm going to be in Lafayette a lot on the weekends for
the next month and then probable in Laf. full time as soon as we
finish the new Vicksburg mural, a gunboat battle on the Mississippi
river during the American Civil War. In other news, I've had
my family participating in the
National Geographic
Genographic Research Project lately, and my dads Y-chromosome
test has finally been completed. We belong to haplogroup R1b (M343),
which is about what I expected, 75% of all european males belong to
this group, which are the descendants of the first homo sapiens
population in Europe. We were Cro-Magnon hunters!!!! Oh well, still
waiting for moms mtDNA results to come thru. That's where the
surprises could be. Anyway, my moms, moms, moms, etc. could
have been almost anything, native american, middle eastern farmer,
european neolithic hunter, african, hard to say, but when I know,
I'll post it here. If anybody else is interested in their deep
genealogy, go order the test. It only costs $107.00 a kit, and
part of the proceeds go to fund the real purpose of the project,
tracking the migratory path of homo sapiens out of Africa 70,000 yrs
ago and every where they went since then. Merry Xmas, Happy
Holidays, and all of that, now go buy something from my
ChromeSun Store
and send it to some one special. |
