| The Kincaid Site- A mississippian, palisaded city in Southern Illinois, USA circa 1150 a.d. The settlement was the political and religious center of the Black Bottom area of Southern Illinois in Massac and Pope counties. The site is the 5th largest of it's kind in the Eastern United States. The mounds were substructure mounds (meaning they had buildings on top of them) and were used as the residences for the elite, for temples and possibly as mortuary houses for the honored dead. |
