The Black Sun is a graphic novel
by H. Roe. It is a dark melding of various world mythologies and the
Pop Culture Mythology of the American South, set in a film noir
inspired no mans land of insanity, depravity, old cars, death and
rebirth. Characters- Leroy Morte- A restless man, driving across the
American South at night in a black 1969 Cutlass. Plagued by
hallucinations and memories that seem impossible, Leroy feels
himself slowly going insane. He gives various pseudonyms, and rarely
uses his real name. Lucretia - Although not specifically named as of
chapter 3, the black 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible is known as
Lucretia. She has a 455 cubic inch engine. The Twin- A man Leroy
sees in his visions, who looks exactly like him. He suspects the man
is his twin. Hunahpu (One Lord) and Xbalanque (Hidden Sun)- The Hero
Twins of the Popol Vuh. In Mayan myth and legend, the twins conquer
death. Andrew Ulysses- A hitch-hiker picked up by Leroy Morte in
Dead Leaves. Marianne D'Notradam- A gas station attendant in Velvet
Bones. Simon Laroche-the shady proprietor of a New Orleans brothel
"The House of the Rising Sun" in Chapter 3, titled "Alabaster
Flowers". Chap. 3 is based on 3 traditional songs. "Wayfaring
Stranger", "House of the Rising Sun", and "Stagger Lee". All 3
of the first chapters were published as a perfect bound book in June
2008, "The Black Sun-Book 1". It can be purchased at
